A few words about the great Chinese Language
Chinese language belongs to the family of Sino-Tibetian languages. Words in these languages though pronounced identically have different intonations. Chinese language has various dialects, Madarin , Cantonese, Hunanese, Wu, Min, Xiang and Gan. Mandarin is accepted as the official language of Mainland China spoken in northeren and western China while Cantonese is more to be heard in Hong Kong and overseas Chinese. These dialects are not mutually intelligible. Even Mandarin has several dialects varying across the geographical terrain in which it is spoken.
By origin, the Chinese dialect is monosyllabic; however, recent language changes tend to make Chinese polysyllabic. There is one common script for all dialects spoken in the language having the same cultural background. The early forms of Chinese characters were pictographs. These characters represent words and meaning in the language. The script is simplified today so as to reach each and every Chinese. The script integrates meaning and pronunciation in its characters.
China has one of the highest literacy rates and more than half of the world’s literature is written in Chinese. The literature dates back to the Shang Dynasty. Classical Chinese had some literary work which till today is considered as an exception. There is a lot of politically oriented literature and only government approved literature is allowed.
China is a dominant business player and the language can help to deal with the business market. China is the second largest economy in the world and its pace of growth can soon make it reach the pinnacle. Knowing Chinese language can give one advantage of this competitive economic shift. A Chinese speaking executive is preferred over others and there is a huge scope for jobs in the Corporate. With a huge export market, overseas Chinese rule few countries. Speaking Chinese language gives an edge if you wish to do business with them. Some foreign government officials have taken up this language and speak it fluently. Globalization allows fresh ideas to pop in and this is possible only if one can communicate in the common language. China being a huge economy and power, learning the language surely works to your advantage.
The confusion in the language’s script can arise as most of the other languages have phonetic writing system unlike the character or word etymology which makes this language stand out from the rest. The spoken language is actually quite easy when compared to certain European languages.
